Housing Rights in Times of Crisis: From Strasbourg to Ukraine

How do we transform the right to housing from a legal concept into a reality for millions displaced by war?

Recently we co-organised a high-level workshop at the University of Strasbourg (ITI MAKErS), marking the end of Dr. Natalia Mishyna’s visiting fellowship. The discussion was a powerful reminder that housing is not just about a roof — it’s the foundation for dignity and social integration.

Key points:

-the French model: exploring how the logement social system can offer structural solutions for Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction.

-the protection gap: addressing the urgent housing needs of Ukrainians under temporary protection in the EU.

-legislative reform: moving toward a municipal-led housing policy aligned with the European Social Charter.

Special thanks to the speakers from SAGE Laboratory, Palacký University Olomouc, and the Council of Europe for their invaluable expertise.

The post-event brief will come soon.
