Tackling domestic violence: Strengthening the role of local self-government

One of our projects focuses on how Ukrainian local self-government can contribute to combating domestic violence and ensuring that victims receive timely and effective support. We are pleased that we are moving in the same direction as the Ukrainian government, which is reinforcing this priority at the national level.According to the media, 'more than 245,000 Ukrainians received support last year as part of the 'Cities and Communities Free from Violence' initiative launched in 2023' (the link to learn more about the Ukrainian government's initiative is below the comments.). This project strengthens local responses to domestic violence by establishing crisis centres, shelters and support services across Ukraine. It was a pleasure to take part in a meeting between Patrick C. R. Terry, Dean and Professor of Law at the University of Public Administration Kehl, and our expert on domestic violence, Ceyhun Garajaev (European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) of the Council of Europe, Judge of the Constitutional Court of Azerbaijan) .While the main focus of our discussion was on building a strategic partnership for future collaboration, we also took the time to exchange insights on a critical issue - domestic violence.A special thank you to Patrick C. We've talked to Dr. Anna Sarybaieva (Pisarenko), who has 20 years of research experience in the fields of administrative law, administrative justice and administrative services.Anna's story:Before the war, I was a Ph. D. (Doctorate ), Associate Professor at the Department of Administrative and Financial Law at the National University “Odesa Law Academy.”In 2022, I left Ukraine, first moving to Germany, and I am currently residing in Austria. Olha Tylchyk – rebuilding Ukraine

Today we introduce Dr Olha Tylchyk. At the beginning of the war she was a professor of administrative law at the University of State Tax Servants of Ukraine, Irpin, Ukraine. She left Ukraine with her daughter and parents in March 2022 and has been living in Spain since then. De. Tylchyk is now working at the University of Barcelona. She continues her research work in collaboration with colleagues from different countries and creates a safe environment for her daughter.Bridging Two Worlds:If I could bring one thing from Spain to help rebuild Ukraine, it would be the area of urban mobility for the transport of goods and people, especially with regard to the mobility of people with disabilities.
